A Closer Look at the Communication Skill


Communicate Clearly
  • Articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral, written and nonverbal communication skills in a variety of forms and contexts
  • Listen effectively to decipher meaning, including knowledge, values, attitudes and intentions
  • Use communication for a range of purposes (e.g. to inform, instruct, motivate and persuade)
  • Utilize multiple media and technologies, and know how to judge their effectiveness a priori as well as assess their impact
  • Communicate effectively in diverse environments (including multi-lingual)

  1. Presentation Skills
    You want your students to improve their presentation skills. You are willing to teach a few lessons on things such as visual aids, body language, eye contact, and articulation.

    What you might showcase: Videos of student presentations, video of your students presenting to another class using skype, etc.
    Technology Tools as part of a presentation: Glogster, VoiceThread, Blabberize, Voki, Audacity, gCast
  2. Writing Skills
    You want your students to write effectively with a clear purpose. You are willing to teach a few lessons on writing for a purpose in your subject area. You might investigate the modern application for lessons in your class.
    Use these resources: (any of the resources listed in the "Forms of Writing" section below)
    What you might showcase: Sample work, a compile writing project,a Blog on a particular topic, a collection of poems, short stories, letters, or other purposeful projects.
